In the exhibition ‘The Americans, New Art’, which was shown in London in 2001, a new phenomenon occurred. In response to the threatening outside world, a group of young (mainly female) artists presented art that took the viewer to the secure fortress of the teen room. These unspoilt dream domains find their descent in the hunch for the protective, private, innocent and intimate affection of the uninhibited childhood. Meanwhile, the ‘flight inside’ has also penetrated Dutch art academies. This is proven by the artistic expressions of Luzie Edelhoff and Elise van der Linden in Zwole. Elise van der Linden is one of the six nominees for the 2006 academic prize. If she does not win it, I will be very surprised! Her work is of a high level. Journey through the night and ‘dawning’ (a fairy-like waterfall of light) are of a lonely class. Also ‘unavoidable’ is irresistible both in concept and in outwarding. The installation Stroll is very professionally created and makes a disarming appeal to public participation. Thanks to a stroll through an exotic and colorful sea of flowers and an idyllic and magical butterfly paradise, the innocence of childhood returns all the way back!
